On the Local Front
In Montana, a commercially-produced anti-war impeachment sign carried by thousands across the US this year, was prevented by Montana Peace Seekers from the Butte July 4th parade on grounds it was an incitement to riot. It was to be carried alone by the retired director of Mountain States Social Research who carried this same sign three times in front of his House Representative's Broadway office this week without incident.
A suggestion that an apology is appropriate has been sent, since being an obstacle of peace is found in all these things: acting first out of fear, preventing the right of free speech, deleting from the public square the Constitutional means for dealing with militarist abuses of power, and rejecting pivotal opportunities to speak truth to power. All of these may be leveled at MT Peace Seekers in this incident. No reply yet... (406-549-4128).

Anecdote of a Parade and One Quiet Voice
It was the Homecoming Parade. I had a single word sign, "Impeach," with a profile of G.W. Bush under it. When the university band approached, glittering in marching uniforms, I held up my little sign.
Immediately, two young men started running towards me out of the parade. The larger of the two continued right up the steps to where I stood in front of a local church, a church incidently where my sign had been taken by a church volunteer and stuffed in a trash can while I was not looking. I had retrieved it. The young man looked like a sportsman, broad of chest and breathing hard.
I am comfortable size and was standing near the top step, and the young man was smiling. So, I saw no need to move. He grasped my hand in his and started pumping. "You want him impeached?" He queried. "Yes, I do," I said, "It's the only effective option." "Good for you," he said, "Glad you're here," and he ran back into the parade.
This was the fall of 2005, long before 200,000+ good Americans put their names in the Congressional Record demanding the same. B. Russell
