Missoula, Montana Could Become the Center of National Impeachment Network Activity for A Day NIN Action Alert
Last week, the Speaker of the House reversed herself on impeachment hearings (hopefully all three resolutions: HRes799 (Cheney), HRes 1258 (35 Abuses of Power by the Administration), & HRes1345 (Bush's Fraudulent Behaviour). She also let Montana politicians know she wanted to speak on the House Agenda in Missoula, Montana on July 26th, at the Hilton. Immediately, MPFI asked its NIN coordinator, William Crain to be present. He agreed, suggesting a theme of "Succoring Thought and Action not Provoking or Making Innuendoes."
Within days, Judiciary Chairman John Conyers released an omnibus list of abuses of power he called the "Imperial Presidency" and scheduled a D.C. hearing on them for Friday July 25th at 10 a.m. EST, the day before Pelosi's appearance in Missoula. This event may be covered by Video. It is clear Conyers took the broad sweep of the Bush Administration as an illegitimate entity as the subject for hearings, with multiple possible outcomes; he took seriously the "Judiciary" label of his committee, whatever obstacles remain in the way of trials.
When NIN issued subsequent alerts, trying to double or triple its lobbyists in congress this week to gain parity with corporate lobbyists, MPFI held informal discussions among advisors on what to do differently if congress closed hearings without action on Friday. Our three year wish for hearings could come to a screeching halt after one day with nothing to celebrate on Saturday but a closed book in the judiciary stacks of the Library of Congress. We had prepared a congratulatory letter on a 3 step process for Pelosi (hearings, floor debate, & forwarding to the Senate) and sent it around Montana for signatures of advisory council members. It is back in Missoula.
Movement on the issue is so fast, and contradictions so rife, that we will use this document to help fill the gap NIN has alerted us about. That is, we will fax it in advance to 23 potential supporters of a three step process in D.C. on the Judiciary Committee. The presentation of the original signed document to Speaker Pelosi in Missoula on Saturday will become ceremonial. On Friday evening, after the initial D.C. hearing of the crimes of this administration has been viewed my Americans across the land, MPFI will issue a Rotunda Circular with final information to impeachment supporters at Pelosi's brunch here in Missoula. Please, all readers of this newsletter, whether you got tickets to this event or are attending the multi-organizational rally, take it with you. If you stay home; please print out the specimen set posted on that circular. It will be your memorabilia of the event. The NIN coordinator asks that impeachment supporters gather a little early--before the 8:45 general call for the rally--at the IHOP just south of the Hilton on N. Reserve for coffee/tea or a quick breakfast.
Please make rally signs early, highlighting the bill of rights, the congressional oath, or an Article of Impeachment. They should provoke thought. This data sheet may be Useful.

It is common in the western world to take from the Middle East more than just its resources and religious heritage. Our three monotheistic religions come from there, and the aspirations of so-called 'energy companies' remain centered on carbon-based fuel reserves in the Middle East. It is the last gasp of our CO2 focused energy system.
But our enduring fantasy life about the prospects of a benevolent universe--about a genie who will pop out of a bottle and grant us three wishes--is also a tradition of the Middle East. We tend to take the story in literal terms, that three wishes are granted to all of us simply because we have had the collective good fortune as Americans to liberate the genie both politically and through industry.
But the point of the Middle Eastern story is that we are fortunate to be granted just one wish by Providence. Most do not get that. And our lack of wisdom in managing our choices is almost certainly why no matter how many wishes history may ultimately grant us, we will screw up most of them given the opportunity.
So, viewing the Bush Administration through the eye of the fatalist, we might see its lack of wisdom as the fatal flaw that squandered every resource of the nation. And viewing the impeachment movement with the same eye, one may be fortunate to get hearings out of an exceedingly corrupt government. We should celebrate that good fortune in the present. We will have to work diligently and draw heavily on personal resources to get floor debate and a senate trial as our second and third wishes. For we are now beyond the probabilities of a benevolent universe. B. Russell
